Troubleshoot a browser screen share

Start by checking whether the problem is capture, connection or audio. If the browser cannot select a screen, check permissions. If the presenter can share but the guest cannot see it, check the room link and connection. If only sound is missing, check the selected audio source.

The screen-sharing picker does not open

Use a current desktop browser and open ScreenZero over HTTPS. Screen capture needs a user action: press the sharing control rather than expecting a share to start automatically.

Check operating-system screen-recording permissions for the browser. After changing a permission, you may need to restart the browser and rejoin the room. Save other browser work before doing so.

The guest sees a blank or frozen picture

Confirm the presenter selected the intended source and has not stopped sharing. Ask whether the guest can see a simple browser tab before testing a more complex application.

Check both connections. Try rejoining with the current room link and test another permitted network if your workplace allows it. Restrictive networks can affect real-time media; do not disable organisational security controls to make a call work.

The picture works but audio is missing

Check microphone permission, the mute control and the selected input device. A connected headset may be selected even when you are speaking into the laptop microphone.

For a video or application soundtrack, check whether the browser offers audio for that capture source. If it does not, changing microphone settings will not add system audio.

Prepare a useful support report

Record the time of the problem, browser and operating-system versions, whether the issue affected every guest, and whether a different tab worked. Describe what you expected and what happened.

Do not send passwords, authentication tokens or client documents. Contact accounts@screenzero.co.uk with the non-sensitive details so the problem can be investigated.
